Getting Help
Help (the ? in the desktop title bar, or Help on mobile) opens a panel beside whatever you are looking at. It starts with the questions we are asked most, each linking into these docs, because an answer you find before reaching a button beats any ticket. Below them are three rows:
- Report a bug and Suggest a feature open a short form inside the panel and post it to the public ZestSSH Discord, one way: it is a drop box, not a conversation, and nobody replies inside the app. On desktop the panel stays open beside the app, so you can reproduce the problem on screen and attach a screenshot of it.
- Get help is for anything that needs an answer: open a private ticket in the Discord server, or email [email protected]. The address is shown with a copy button, because not every machine has a mail client. Discord tickets are private, but they are not encrypted the way your vault is, so do not paste keys or passwords into one.
The rest of the panel holds recording mode and Copy redacted screenshot under their own heading, then Keyboard shortcuts (the Keyboard section of Settings), the Discord community and What’s new. The footer shows the app version and whether ZestSSH Cloud is up, so a bug report can start with both facts. That status is a real check: while the panel is open the app asks api.zestssh.com once every five minutes; nothing about you is sent.
What is sent
Section titled “What is sent”A report carries what you typed, its type, and six facts about the app, shown to you in the form under See exactly what will be sent before anything leaves the device:
- app version and build number
- platform (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS) and OS version
- language
- plan (Free, Squeezed, Juiced or the bundle)
A suggestion also carries the category you picked, if you picked one (UI/UX, new feature or quality of life); it becomes the post’s tag in the forum. Bug reports are tagged with their platform (desktop or mobile) from the facts above.
Nothing else. No logs, no host list, no settings, and no install identifier. A report cannot be tied to you unless you type a Discord handle yourself.
If you happen to be signed in to ZestSSH Cloud, your account id travels with the request so the service can apply the per-account limits below and honour blocks. It is never posted to Discord and is not stored with the report. Signing in is not required to send one.
Screenshots
Section titled “Screenshots”A screenshot is opt-in, and only offered for bug reports on desktop. When you attach one it is captured with recording mode masking applied, whether or not the mode is on, so host names, addresses, usernames and fingerprints are hidden. You can uncheck that to send the raw window. The terminal’s own output is never masked, so check it before you attach. The panel itself is part of the capture; your own report text is the only thing it adds.
Anonymous by default
Section titled “Anonymous by default”Stay anonymous is selected by default. The cost is stated in the form: there will be no way to follow up with you. Choose Let me follow up to add a Discord handle, typed by hand, never taken from your account. It is posted publicly alongside the report, and the form says so before you send.
Your text is never lost
Section titled “Your text is never lost”If the report cannot be sent (no network, or the service is briefly unavailable), it is saved inside the app’s encrypted database and sent the next time the app starts. The saved copy holds the text only, never the screenshot, and is deleted once delivered. The form also offers Copy report to clipboard and a link to the Discord, so you can post it yourself.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”The report channel is an unauthenticated write into a public Discord, so it has limits whether or not you are signed in:
- 10 reports an hour per network address
- 5 an hour and 20 a day per account, when you are signed in
- an hourly ceiling on the channel as a whole
- a report identical to one sent in the last 24 hours is acknowledged without being posted again
If you hit one, the form tells you how long to wait; the clipboard copy still works. An account that has abused the channel can be blocked from sending. The form says so plainly rather than failing silently, and [email protected] is the way to contest it.
Where a report lives
Section titled “Where a report lives”Report content lives in Discord, under Discord’s retention. The ZestSSH service keeps only short-lived rate-limit counters and the block list, which holds opaque account ids and never an email address. To have a report removed, email [email protected] with the reference shown at the bottom of the Discord post.
Keyboard shortcuts
Section titled “Keyboard shortcuts”Keyboard shortcuts in the Help panel opens the Keyboard section of Settings, where every rebindable shortcut can be changed and the fixed keys (Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+9 for tabs, Alt+arrows between panes, Ctrl+Alt+1 to 8 for layout presets) are listed. The command palette shows each action’s current binding next to it.
